Arguably, the most recognizable painting in the world is Da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa' and is it just coincidence that it happens to be a portrait? We humans seem to be drawn to images of ourselves and our fellow humans. But in the age of smart phones and 'selfies', why would anyone want a painted portrait?
The reasons are varied, but I think we still find an intrinsic value in things produced by hand. The tactility of charcoal on paper or brushstrokes on canvas is naturally appealing. The image becomes art , but also an object. More importantly, the artist's intention and interpretation are exclusive. We are talking about original art. It is this collaborative effort between you and the artist that ends with a result that ideally serves both the imagination and the heart.
So, if you have ever considered having a portrait done of yourself or a loved one, now is the time. Why not? Ask me about a small portrait, something you can hold in your hands or sit on your desk. If you need a life-sized wallhanger, we can discuss that, as well. Let's make something you'll love. Let's make art!
